Director of Athletics, Tim Williams, is a new addition to the PDS community. He comes to us from Louisville Collegiate School in Kentucky, where he spent nine years as Director of Athletics and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach. “The schools themselves and the cultures are very different, but in a good way,” said Mr. Williams.
Yet, the enthusiasm for sports at Louisville Collegiate seems to be just as prevalent here at PDS. “There is a lot of support here from the students, faculty, and administration, which has really made my transition easy,” Mr. Williams commented.
Other PDS faculty and students reinforced Mr. Williams’s comment. Sophomore Brittany Murray said, “We love seeing him at all of our games, and just knowing how much he supports us is really nice.”
“I think Tim has had a very warm reception from the PDS community. He has a great personality, and the best part about working with him in this office is that it is fun to come to work everyday,” concluded Assistant to the Director of Athletics Marie Claire Heller.
Mr. Williams has only been at PDS for a short period of time, but he is already making changes in the Athletic Department. For example, all athletic gear has been assigned a standardized “P” logo. Ms. Heller remarked, “We’ve gone to a more collegiate look as far as our signage, a split ‘P’, as you see at schools like Princeton High, Pennington, and Hun.”
“PDS has a great tradition, and I’m not here to majorly change things, but to enhance them,” said Mr. Williams of his recent adjustment.
This enhancement is not the only one which Mr. Williams has in store for the community. “I know that the Woodbridge room in the rink is going to be going through a new makeover, which is awesome, because the rink is a big identifier of Princeton Day School,” Ms. Heller said.
Mr. Williams also plans to make adjustments to the scheduling of games, in hopes of facilitating greater involvement.
Finally, Mr. Williams is pushing for PDS to utilize the website iHigh.com. This website allows for the broadcast of high school athletic events online. “We’re really looking for student help here. I’ve already talked to some people, but we are trying to gather a team of people that videotape the games, and others to give play-by-play commentaries. I really hope that we can get a test run going before break and begin full use of the website when we return,” he explained.
Mr. Williams concluded, “I feel like it is my job to help [athletes] reach their goals, whether it be to play college sports or to have a great high school athletic career.”
